I think though Apple has always had this uneasy relationship with pros.
Totalterminal el capitan windows 8#
It's the reason Windows 8 was so terrible for example.īy and large I agree to a point. I think we all agree desktop OSes are going to be needed for the foreseeable future, you can't do all the science or engineering you need to on a mobile OS or programming, but desktop OSes are looking increasingly outdated and clunky compared to mobile, and this is driving the advancements (good or bad) we're seeing. We're entering an era where a student can use an iPad for everything they need until college, and there's probably some students that use iPads as their college PC. Mobile is a competitor to desktop OSes now. Your last 3 paragraphs are basically my response to your first paragraph.

Hardware: iMac 27" 2013 w/ 256GB SSD and MacBook Pro 13.3" early 2015 both exhibit this behaviour. Although El Capitan is an improvement over previous releases Apple still needs to focus on fixing many of these low hanging bugs that should be relatively easy to address when compared to more complex problems such as Wifi issues (given the number of variables that exist in a Wifi network setup). Another problem that occurs is with Safari is the cursor disappearing - doesn't happen if I use Chrome though. Not too sure whether it is much consolation but I've had the same problem - the screen freezes yet I can move the mouse around (but can't click on anything) then it suddenly comes unfrozen. This is on a 2008 Mac Pro with 20Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD + spinning drives for the less-used stuff. Mostly cured by rebooting Finder, but sometimes needs a restart. Now upgraded to 10.11.1 and it's still happening - not all the time, but regularly enough for it to be preying on my mind when I have a big job on. I got a lot of Finder freezes - usually when trying to switch to the Finder from another program, or switch Finder tabs - with 10.11.

Hope this helps! The problem has not returned for me since I did this.

While I used the build-in capability of FeX Pro to clear out the caches, there are tons of utilities that will do this in a point-and-click fashion ( Cocktail comes to mind-it isn't free, but you can run it ten times in demo mode or free to try it out), or you can do it from the command line with a simple one-line command. Even if you don't follow these steps, the worst that could happen is some temporary visual glitches or an application crash. You're unlikely to cause any problems clearing the font caches (or any caches, for that matter) as long as you don't have any applications open, and reboot immediately afterwards.

Could you please give me instructions on how to clear (no pun intended) this up? I'm a little hesitant to fiddle with fonts unless I know exactly what I'm doing. I have the same problem in Safari, yet Chrome is crystal clear. So! Font rendering looks strange? Purge the caches. On a lark, I used FontExplorerPro X (which I use to manage my enormous typeface library) to delete all system font caches. What was ultra-blurry in Safari looked fine in Chrome and so on. However, this problem only affected certain pieces of software: Safari, yes. Helvetica was particularly messed up, and this was very noticeable in Safari. Bold, Italics) were visible as choices, but selecting them didn't do anything, etc. Of note, in case it's useful to someone else: After upgrading to El Capitan, I noticed that some fonts were not rendering correctly: They appeared more blurry than others, certain faces (e.g.
